Dawn and Mo
met at Texas A&M, where they
had several Spanish classes together, but it wasn't until the end-of-year
Spanish club party that the sparks flew. (Yes, there's a story there,
but you'll have to ask us about it. *grin*). After we both graduated
in 1991, Dawn was called to active duty by the Air Force and got
her first assignment - Colorado Springs. Not wanting to be left
behind, Mo proposed and we've been blissfully married since February
1, 1992.
Colorado was
great, except for the fact that Dawn blew out her knee playing on
the base softball team and the subsequent series of surgeries meant
she got left out of a lot of the outdoor activities offered in that
part of the country. Fortunately, she had already taught Mo how
to ski, and he had several opportunities to enjoy the fine conditions
that abound in that state druing the winter months. Our favorite
pastimes, though, were camping in the Collegiate mountain range
near St.
Elmo and soaking in the various hotsprings.
Truly a marvellous time.
A short notice
assignment came up to Spangdahlem
AFB, Germany, and we literally leapt at the chance to go overseas.
We had no idea what a treat we were in for, but in retrospect, there
is really nowhere else in Germany we could have enjoyed more. Close
to the Luxembourg/Belgium border, the Eifel region of Germany we
were in is mostly rural farmland. Beautiful countryside, down-to-earth
people, and some of the best wine on the planet. We made many many
trips to the nearby Mosel
river valley, and made friends with several vintners in the
course of purchasing large quantities of their fine products. Mosel
Reisling's are the closest you can get to capturing the flavor of
sunshine in a bottle.. absolutely fantastic.
More coming soon...
